After I arrived in the US, I liked to compare the US with Taiwan, especially the business. Recently, my friend owns a cat, and he wanted someone to take care of his cat when he went back to Taiwan on summer vacation. My cousin agreed to help him take care of his cat, and my cousin charged him 300 dollars a month plus the cost of the cat's supplies. My friend also agreed with that. When I heard my friend accepted this high charge, I was surprised because most Taiwanese people do not spend a lot of money on their pets.
First of all, the rate of pet ownerships in the US is higher than the rate in Taiwan. The high rate resulted in the common pet care business, so people who own pets are more willing to spend money on their pets. The economic situation is the second reason, and the incomes of Americans is higher than the incomes of Taiwanese people. Taiwanese people have to pay most part of wages on diary expense, such as the education fee, food expense, or utilities, and deposited the remainder, so just a few Taiwanese people want to spend a lot of money taking care of their pets. Finally, Taiwanese people spend more money on entertainments more than on pets. People have fixed entertainment budget, so when they spend more money on watching movies, shopping, and having parties, the expense on pets is eliminated. Based on those reasons, I know that it is difficult to develop a pet business in Taiwan.
